Sandbox Reading Assistant

Accessing Admin Dashboard and Teacher Reports through HMH Ed
District and School administrators can configure their school's assessments, see data, and access teacher reports. This article will go into detail about the many things Administrators have access to. 

Reading Assistant Learning Admin Access
The Reading Assistant Learning Administrator role has access to various reports, including raw data, usage data, and district dashboards. Users can be given school-level or district-level access to support a variety of users who may need frequently updated data to inform decisions.

These are the available permissions, what they allow a person to do, and how to access them:

Roster in HMH EdYou will need an HMH Ed Admin role to roster in the system. Refer to How do I roster in HMH Ed? to learn more. Admin Tools: Where to access: Log in to HMH > Go to the Discover tab > Select Reading Assistant. When Reading Assistant is launched, you’ll see three options at the top of the page. Admin: Assessment Settings & Configurations, Admin Dashboard2. Review Activity: Visibility into School and Classroom-level Activity 3. Reports: Visibility into School and Classroom-level ReportsAdminThis is where you can set custom benchmark cutlines, set a benchmark window, access your Admin Dashboard, configure Science of Reading, and more.

Custom Benchmark
Use this feature to set customized cut-off points that are displayed in the Benchmark Report in addition to national percentile rankings (norms). Define "red", "yellow" and "green" thresholds for metrics such as WCPM and Developmental Reading Assessment. For more information on this, please click here.

District-Wide Results - Export data
There are two ways to access the "raw" data within Reading Assistant:
Option 1: Export a limited CSV of each student's most recent Benchmark and Dyslexia Screener assessment data

Option 2: Go to your District's Dropbox folder to select from two data files that are refreshed weekly:

  • USAGE - Practice - data with individual student names and ID numbers

  • DATA - Assessment data with additional columns unavailable in the CSV extract.

NOTE: Dropbox access is only available for District AdminsIf you are a DISTRICT admin and need access to your District's Reading Assistant usage dropbox, please click the link and fill out the following Request FormEnable Benchmark AssessmentThe Benchmark Assessment can be auto-assigned to all students in the district. Set a date range so any student who hasn't completed the Dyslexia Screener and/or Benchmark Assessment in the current testing window is automatically presented with the assessment the next time the student logs in. Configuration SettingsUse this feature to determine what components are included in the assessment for each grade level. For details on this task, please click here. Admin DashboardAdministrators will also want to be able to monitor growth from one testing window to the next, see weekly usage data, and analyze trends across the various metrics in the software. The impact of Reading Assistant Practice on your students' fluency growth can also be viewed from the admin dashboard.Science of Reading ConfigurationReading Assistant allows administrators to adapt Reading Assistant’s stories and capabilities to align with your Science of Reading (SoR) goals and expectations. Use this feature to configure how practice sessions for students are administered. This includes settings such as how much Reading Assistant should intervene and whether stories should have images. For details on this task, please click here. Badging ConfigurationReading Assistant now offers achievement Badging! Students will be able to celebrate and access their milestones from reading with Reading Assistant by collecting and accessing Reading Assistant Animal Badges. Students earn these badges by completing stories and showing growth and they appear as virtual animal stickers in the new Progress screen. Use this feature to turn on Badging for your District or Campus. Teachers will still need to choose to administer badges within their classes.  For more information on Badging, click here.ReportsInstructional leaders like coaches, principals, and district coordinators may want to access the real-time data available in teacher-level reports. You can launch Reading Assistant directly from HMH Ed under the Discover tab. You'll get access to the following Reading Assistant Reports to see how students are doing on a class level.
