The Tracking Report is more functional than ever. You can assign and monitor your student’s assessment status (Benchmark and Progress Monitor assessments), designate students as Early Readers or bilingual (Spanish), and even configure a student’s practice experience, among other things. 

Let’s break down the report and go into what it all means.

  1. This shows your school and class. If you’re a district administrator, you can change the school and class, or if you’re a school admin or teacher, you can change the class you’re looking at. This will load all students into the tracking report for the class you select.


 

  1. The testing window shows you which screening window you’re looking at (Fall, Winter, Spring). It will automatically default to the current testing window, but you can use the drop-down menu to select the others to see that data.


 

  1. At the top of the tracking report, you may see a box stating that a screening window is set. This gives you information about your active benchmark assessment window and its end date.


 

  1. This section is easy to navigate. It shows the last name and first name of each student for the class you’ve selected to examine. 


 

  1. Tutoring Time This Week shows you the amount of minutes each student has spent on practice this week. This time includes time spent reading and coaching by Reading Assistant in the form of interventions. A more detailed view that includes time spent reading only can be seen by clicking the

 icon. In addition, you may see red/yellow/green coloring for the minutes value. The color thresholds for these values are as follows:

  • Red: 1-9

  • Yellow: 10-29

  • Green: 30+

  1. Stories Read This Week tells you how many stories a student has read this week. This count includes both assessments and tutor passages. If your student is in the early reader scaffold, you’ll see a little “scaffolding” icon next to the count of stories in this column. A more detailed view that includes a breakdown of completed and incomplete stories can be seen by clicking the icon. 7) The column for review skills allows you to click the icon next to each student’s name and it will take you directly to the Skills Diagnostic report for that particular student. 8) Assessment status will tell you the current status of your student’s most recent assessment, whether Benchmark or Progress Monitoring. We’ll go into each of the statuses individually a little later. 9) The language column allows you to select the language for your students. You can select English or Bilingual. 10) This allows you to assign a Benchmark assessment. 11) This allows you to assign a Progress Monitoring assessment.12) This allows you to configure practice for a student or multiple students simultaneously.

13) This allows you to configure a bilingual student's District-assigned assessment differently than the District configurations.

14) Unassign Assessment allows you to unassign an assessment if you no longer wish students to take that assessment or simply if a student was assigned an assessment by mistake. How do I assign an assessment?

1) From your teacher portal, click on Reports in the upper right corner, then select Tracking Report.

2) From here, select the school (District Admin only) and the class. Select one or more students you would like to assign an assessment to, then click the Assign Benchmark Assessment button or Assign Progress Monitor button.

Benchmark Assessment
 

You'll see this page if you select to assign a Benchmark assessment to your student/s. This tells you the assessment type, the tasks included (based on your District/School configuration), and allows you to manage the language. Once you’ve reviewed this page, click Create at the bottom.

Progress Monitor Assessment
 

Alternatively, you'll get this page if you select the Progress Monitor assessment. It’s similar to the one above for the benchmark assessment, but students will only get the Oral Reading Fluency task (ORF). Review this page, and then click Create.

How do I check a student’s assessment status? 

You’ll see the status of each student’s assessment in the Assessment Status column. Here’s a list of statuses you’ll see, what they mean, and what steps to take next.

Schedule On ____

Student has been assigned an assessment on the given date (Benchmark or Progress Monitoring) to be given at the student's next login. 

Log the student in. Give them enough time to complete the assessment in one sitting (about 8-12 minutes).

Complete

Student has completed the assessment. 

Check the Benchmark and Dyslexia reports for scores if they took a Benchmark assessment, or the Progress Report if they completed a Progress Monitor assessment.

Early Reader

Student has completed the assessment. Student was unable to complete the Kindergarten passage, or completed the passage with a score of 7 WCPM or lower, and has been placed in the Early Reader skills scaffold.

Instruct the student to log in and start practicing in the Early Reader Skills Scaffold.

In Progress

Student has started but not yet completed their assessment. 

Make sure that the student's device and browser tab remains open until Reading Assistant says "good job" and logs them out, or have them log in to complete the assessment.

Scoring

Student has completed the assessment, however it is in the process of scoring, which can take up to 24 hours.

Check the status in the Tracking Report in 24 hours.

Under Review

Student completed the assessment, however it has been flagged for manual review. This status will change to either "Complete" or "Reassess" in 3 business days, not including the date of assessment.

Check the status in the Tracking Report in 3 business days. This timer begins the day after the session was completed.

Reassess

Student completed the assessment, but there was an issue which led to an invalid score. 

Click on the student's name and re-assign the assessment. Instruct the student to log in to take the assessment.

Unassessed

Student has not been assigned an assessment in the current testing window. The student will be in practice mode the next time they log in.

No action required. If you want to assign an assessment, click on the student's name and click the Assign button at the bottom of the screen.

How do I unassign an assessment?
 

When a student is assigned an assessment and you don’t actually need them to take it, you can easily unassign it by selecting the student and then clicking on the Unassign Assessment button at the bottom of the report.

You’ll see three horizontal dots to show its processing, and then the status will be reverted to their previous assessment status.

 
 

What is “Configure Practice''? 
 

This allows you to configure your student/s practice experience. You’ll select their language and how you wish them to practice. Either in the standard Reading Assistant practice or the early reader skills scaffold. Alternatively, you can follow the same steps to remove a student from the early reader skills scaffold. Follow the steps below to configure practice.

  1. Select the student/s you want to configure and click Configure Practice at the bottom.

 

  1. Select the language or languages you want the student to practice and click next.

  1. Then, select between Standard Practice, Early Reader, or Saxon (if your District has enabled them) and select Next.

  1. Select the language you would like Reading Assistant's tutoring and directions to be in. For example, If you want the student to receive directions and interventions in Spanish from a Reading Assistant while they are reading in English, you would select "Spanish". Then select Update.

NOTE: For students designated as bilingual, you'll choose what type of practice you want them to receive when practicing in Spanish and click update. Students practicing in Spanish can only receive instructions and interventions in Spanish.

What is the Review Skills View?

Clicking the Review Skills icon in the tracking report next to a student will redirect you to the Skills Diagnostic Report for that student. The report is organized around Scarborough’s Reading Rope. It shows the Reading Assistant Learning Progression (our scope and sequence). Skill Area orders skills. Visit the link above to go to our help center article for the Skills Diagnostic Report.

Statistics Popup

Students with activities for the week will have an icon in the Minutes Read This Week, and Stories Read This Week column. Clicking this will result in a box being displayed with the following information:
