Administering Assessments in SPIRE: A Step-by-Step Guide

This article provides a comprehensive guide on effectively administering assessments within the SPIRE learning platform. By following the structured approach outlined in this guide and the accompanying video, educators can ensure that they accurately measure and support student progress and mastery of course materials.

In this guide, you will learn how to:

  1. Prepare for assessments by accessing teacher instructions and printing materials

  2. Administer assessments and record student responses

  3. Evaluate results and determine student mastery

  4. Access and analyze assessment reports

Video guide: ⏯️ Assessments

Step 1: Preparation

  • Before conducting an assessment, access the teacher instructions provided within the platform. These instructions include hyperlinks to black-line masters of the assessment materials, which must be printed for student use.

Step 2: Administer the Assessment

  • For each assessment, the test is administered individually to students. During the test, monitor and record student responses directly on your device. In the case of concept assessments, this happens after reinforcing lessons as part of the independent practice.

Step 3: Record Errors and Save Results

  • As you administer the test, tap or click on the words or sentences students misread, directly recording these errors in the system.

Step 4: Evaluate and Save

  • Upon completion of the assessment, review the results and add any necessary comments. Save the results, which will automatically update on the reports tab accessible from the class home screen.

Step 5: Check Mastery

  • Review the scores to determine if students have achieved mastery (80% or higher). Based on the results, decide whether to move on to the next introductory lesson or repeat a reinforcing lesson on the same concept.

Step 6: Reporting

  • All assessment results are stored and displayed on the reports tab. This facilitates easy access to and analysis of detailed performance data for each student.

Step 7: Continuous Assessment

  • Continue with other assessments such as pre-tests, mid-level tests, and post-tests, following the same procedures to ensure comprehensive evaluation of student progress throughout the course.

By following this step-by-step guide, educators can effectively administer assessments within the SPIRE platform, accurately measure student progress, and make data-driven instructional decisions to support student success.
