The Coach Digital Compass mark up and annotation tool allows teachers to make annotations on PDFs using a highlight tool, a text-box tool, and drawing tools. It also allows students to use the same tools and to submit their work to teachers, who can grade students' work. This update to Coach Digital Compass allows administrators, teachers, and students to digitally interact with previously static materials.
Teachers and administrators can write on and annotate lessons during class presentations. They can also store notes for future reference.
Students can annotate and provide answers on PDFs that teachers can then grade within Coach Digital Compass.
This article will walk you through assigning and grading this content.
There are two types of PDF content that can be assigned and annotated.
Lessons (PDF only). This content can be assigned from the Library
Choose Content, select subject and grade, and choose Library
Find the PDF-Only lesson (*content without the digital practice pointer icon ) and choose "Assign."
The system will bring you to your assignment page. Choose your class, set the assignment name, and start/expiration dates, and select students. The platform will default your selection to “Assign PDF Interactively”. This will allow your students to markup the content. If you deselect this feature, student will be assigned a “read-only” assignment.
Choose Assign. The assignment will appear in the student’s Assignment List. The platform will track the Assignment in the Teacher Dashboard, within Active Assignments, Assignments to Grade, and the calendar.
Teacher Resources. Print-Only Assessments (and other specific content) can be assigned to students from the Teacher Resources tab
Choose Content, select subject and grade, choose Teacher Resources, and expand the Print-Only Assessment. These assessments are assignable for your students. Other select materials are available for assigning within this tab for specific grades and subjects.
Open the resource, select the “Actions” button, and choose “Assign.”
The system will bring you to your assignment page. Choose your class, set the assignment name and start/expiration dates, and select students. If you select "Assign PDF Interactively," students will be able to mark up the content. If you deselect this feature, students will be assigned a "read-only" assignment.
Choose Assign.
Teacher Scoring
After your students complete an assignment, you can grade their work. Assignments that need grading can be accessed from either of two screens.
Under the “Assignments to Grade” list on your main Teacher Dashboard.
Under your Assignment List in your Manage tab
Navigate to the Assignment List
Choose Needs Grading from the drop down menu.
Review students' work.
You can annotate the pages, and add notes to the students.
Enter the total grade for your student and choose “Submit Grade”
Your students will then see the graded assignment with your comments under their Assignments tab.
Grading is for the whole assignment and not for individual questions. The students' scores will appear in the Assignment Report and in the Export Student Scores report. However, the grades will not influence the Cumulative Standards Reports.
