Getting Started on Coach Digital Compass - Teachers

Thank you for using the Coach Digital Compass program. This is a versatile program that provides content and materials for teacher-led or guided instruction. It also provides practice for students with standard and assignment reporting. The goal of the program is to provide teachers with a host of resources to support accelerated learning for the whole class, plus remediation of unfinished learning for those who need it the most. This guide will provide a condensed outline for teachers to set up their classes, assign content, and view reports.

  1. Creating Classes. To begin assigning material, teachers must first set up their classes. If your school is using Clever or ClassLink to roster students, you will likely already have your classes created in Coach Digital Compass. However, if you are logging into the program manually, you will create your classes.

    1. Login and select the drop-down menu in the top right corner

    2. Select “Classes”

    3. Select “Add a Class” (Note: On this page, you can also copy, delete, edit, view groups, print rosters, and view rosters)

    4. On the “Add a Class” page, fill in the fields for your class

    5. Filter through the students by grade and/or last name

    6. Add students by selecting the box next to their name

    7. Select “Save” to finish adding the class

  1. The Coach Digital Compass "Content" After selecting the Content button, you will find books, lessons, assessments, Catch up with Coach, placement tests, and other materials for the classroom. Teachers can browse for this material by choosing the grade and subject. Select “Content” from the top toolbar.

    1. To start, choose your preferred subject and grade(s).

    2. Under Library, you will find all of your titles for the program. You can browse through our courses or filter by standard. The books and lessons available will appear at the center of the page and additional instructional material will be found on the left-hand toolbar. If you would like to see the kinds of titles that we have in this program, please see the workbook lists in the linked files (these are for titles within grades 1 to 8).   CDC Math Titles  CDC ELA and Reading Titles

    3. Catch up with Coach identifies student learning gaps, then addresses those gaps through specific lessons and practice suggested by prescriptive reporting. The resource will provide you with grade-level screeners, pre-/post- tests for units, and lessons that correspond to those units

    4. Digital Assessments. You can assign digital stand-alone Placement Tests and Digital Assessments. The Digital Assessments contain both summative and formative assessments.

  1. Assigning Instructional Material. Teachers can assign lessons and tests to classes, groups, and individual students.

  2. Select the “Assign” button next to the title of the lesson or test

  3. On the Create Assignment page, fill in the fields marked *required

  1. Managing Assignments. You have two ways of managing assignments.

    1. You can manage all material assigned to students under the Manage tab in your “Assignment List”. This will give you the list of all of the assignments that have been assigned by you.

    2. The Calendar View.

      1. This can be found in your main teacher dashboard under Calendar.

      2. Once you click on it, you will see the list of the assignments you have in the near future.

  2. The Assessment Builder. Teachers can build their own unique assignments through the “Assessment Builder” in the top toolbar. With the Assessment Builder, teachers select questions from our Question Bank and build assignments for their classrooms. Select “Assessment Builder” in the top toolbar using the Question Bank filters, and choose a subject, grade level, and standard. Scroll through the Question Bank list and drag-and-drop the questions you like onto the “Assessment Preview” on the right-hand side of the page, give your assignment a name and type directions to your students. Select “Save and Preview” or “Save” when finished. All the assignments you build with the Assessment Builder will be stored in the “Custom Assessment” tab under “Assessment Builder” in the top toolbar

  1. The Reporting Tab – Tracking Student Progress and User Activity. teachers can track student progress on assignments and standards through the Reporting tab on Coach Digital Compass. Hover over “Reporting”. The reporting tool will give you a breakdown of student proficiency, along with recommendations based on student learning gaps. Select Cumulative Standards Report to track student mastery across skills. Select “Assignment Reporting” to view student assignment data by test or lesson
