    Activity Duration

    The Word Decoding activity in Step 4 is estimated to take 10 minutes and provides a focused session on decoding skills.

     

    Mode of Instruction

    Some portions of Step 4 are conducted in "Eyes on Teacher Mode," where students are expected to pay close attention to the directions on the teacher's screen. Other parts of the activity allow for interactive engagement on both the teacher's and student’s devices.

     

    Accessing the Activity

    • The activity is displayed on both the teacher's and students' device screens, ensuring synchronized participation.

    • Teachers present the instructions for the activity, which are visible on the student’s device screens, guiding the students through the word decoding process.

     

    Utilizing the Toolbar

    • Students use a toolbar on the left side of the drawing activity interface to interact with the words presented.

    • The toolbar includes various tools, such as a pencil for freehand drawing, an eraser for correcting mistakes, a line tool for underlining and segmenting, a square tool for highlighting prefixes and suffixes, and a circle tool for other marking needs.

     

    Decoding Instructions

    • Specific instructions include using the line tool to underline vowels and letter teams, cross out silent 'e's, and divide words into syllables.

    • Students are encouraged to use the undo button to correct mistakes, enhancing the learning experience by allowing trial and error.

     

    Submitting Work

    • After completing the instructions, students can submit their work for the teacher's review.

    • Submitted work appears under each student's icon at the top of the drawing activity interface on the teacher's device.

     

    Review and Feedback

    • Teachers can review each student's work by clicking on their icons. This feature allows for personalized feedback and corrections.

    • Teachers can return students' work with corrections or additional feedback, facilitating a dynamic and interactive learning process.

    Interactive Engagement: The Word Decoding activity requires active participation from students, making it a hands-on learning experience.
